On the 22nd September 2015, SPSPA held a opening ceremony to mark the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year. Participants in ceremony are made up by the leaders of SPSPA and the School of International Education, students’ supervisor and overseas students.
There are 15 international students respectively from Ghana, Zambia, Ethiopia and Uzbekistan, participating in this ceremony, and having a face-to-face communication with their supervisors. It is the first time for SPSPA to independently recruit foreign students, which marks the internationalized process of the school.
A welcome speech was delivered by Professor Zhu Xiao-ning. In his speech, he expressed his sincere congratulations to all the international students to be part of the big family. He laid emphasis on the need to combine social science with natural science with the former playing the dominant role to inspire scientific spirit and humanistic spirit . Secondly, considering actual social needs, attaching importance to the application and innovation of the discipline to make the university fulfill the functions of talent cultivation, scientific research, and serving the local area. Thirdly, highlighting the characteristics of the times, we aim to cultivate talents with international competitiveness.
Dr.WANG Luhao, on behalf of SPSPA Faculty also encouraged students to participate in the academic discussions. Tomasz Wolny, on behalf of international postgraduates of SPSPA shared his experience in Chengdu. He suggested that students “first understand the language, then the culture and then they can finally understand the people. LUO Yifei, on behalf of undergraduates of SPSPA shared her experience and presented a full and dynamic college life. She also encouraged students to take an active part in campus life.
Hamavhwa Victor a freshman who is from Zambia on behalf 2015 international students also highlighted how happy all the students are to find themselves at UESTC.
