The Chairman of UESTC Council Wang Zhi-qiang met with Antoinette A. Samuel, the Deputy Executive Director of the National League of Cities (NLC), USA

On October 8th, Chairman of UESTC Council, Wang Zhi-qiang met with Antoinette A. Samuel, the Deputy Executive Director of the National League of Cities (NLC), USA on Qingshuihe Campus.
Wang Zhi-qiang welcomed Ms. Samuel and expressed thanks for her contribution on UESTC’s promoting international strategy. He said that with the development of urbanization, and because of facing many problems to be solved, urban management is very important for Chinese development. To meet the demands for urban management talents with the development of economy and society, UESTC began to recruit students majoring in urban management from this year, and he hoped that there will be more cooperation opportunities between NLC and UESTC in the field of urban management and others in the future.

Ms. Samuel served as ExecutiveDirectoroftheAmericanSocietyforPublicAdministration(ASPA)from 2004 to 2013. During this period, she promoted the cooperationin ASPA, UESTC and CPAJ for the International Conference on Public Administration (ICPA).Ms. Samuel said that it was great honor to come back to UESTC and expressed her appreciation for the rapid development of UESTC in recent years. Samuel pointed that urban development, construction and management is an important project for a country and the mutually supportive relationship should be formed between a university and the city. She hopes that both sides can choose the topics with common interests in the relevant field to carry out research in the future.
Both sides had some exchange and discussion on local governance management, international exchanges and the Sino-US relations and other topics.
During the visit, Ms. Samuel would deliver a keynote speech at the seminar on Informatization of Public Information hosted by SPSPA.
The Management from the school of politics science and public administration and the office of international cooperation and exchangeattended the meeting.
